Verona
I’m currently working on a personal photo project about my time from 97-04, the following is a little story behind the photo.
I spent 6 weeks in Northern Italy during the winter of 2000
At the time I was living in Israel but this was my first trip to Europe.
Skiing motivated this trip and after many months of research I decided on Italy.
I sold my Subaru and landed in Milan shortly after.
I had a room booked in the small mountain town of Livigno.
I was foolishly schlepping a 6 ft long ski bag along for the whole trip that created silly challenges in the airports, train and bus stations.
After a full travel day I was waiting for the last bus to Livigno when I was approached by a woman asking me “Livigno”? She and her girlfriend offered me a ride for the last leg of my day.
I was in the back seat leaning over the front bench watching the whole drive through the windshield like an excited dog knowing he was going somewhere good.
It was a drive like I had never experienced before. The roads turned a lot and were very narrow. At times through the smaller villages I could swear we were driving on the sidewalks.
They dropped me at my room house very late into the night, I arrived.
I spent 3 weeks exploring the region and then moved on to Courmayeur for another 3 weeks.
Once the skiing and cash were all done I made my way to Verona for the end of the trip.
I spent 24hrs there absorbing as much culture and life as I could while reflecting on a trip I will always look back on with great joy.
