Food Photography

Nupo is a Japanese style restaurant in Calgary’s East village, they specialize in sushi and beautifully prepared dishes. The artistic craftsmanship and creativity is high level.

I was hired to photograph 15+ courses prepared for a private event along with cocktails, which were also unique and likely very delicious. I did not sample the drinks, but the food was very good. The separation between ingredients was very evident in my mouth, it was something I never experienced before with eating. It made me appreciate more than just how the food presented.

I had no interaction with the guests or any exposure to the dining the room. I was very curious to see the people who likely paid a very high ticket price to attend. I assume they were fans of the chefs.

Nupo head chef Darren MacLean and his group hosted a few highly acclaimed chefs from Japan for the week and this was the finale event. From what I learned they toured the region exploring the natural environment that delivered much of the ingredients they used in the dishes.

These are top players in their game and I was very fortunate to be involved.
